French News Publishers To Be Paid For Content By Google

Google has signed an agreement with publishers in France to pay for the snippets of their content in the news section. It could soon be replicated elsewhere in Europe under new copyright laws. 

L’Alliance de la Presse d’Information Generale (APIG) which represents the interest of around 300 French news media announced the framework agreement with Google today, sharing the terms of negotiation for Google’s reuse of its content. However, Google hasn’t shared how much money will be paid to the France publishers under the new framework. 

As per the sources, the payment will be based on criteria like political or general information, the number of stories per day, and the unique visitors per month.

Google‘s tussled with publishers started last year when it started removing news previews completely. After that, the French regulators forced the tech giant to start negotiations with its publishers.
